Figure 3.3 (a) and (b) show the flow diagrams of the PRESS and the coscheduled
PRESS models in handling a remote cache read request, respectively. In both the figures,
the sequence of steps is given since the arrival of a request from the webswitch at the
initial node (step 1). Once the main process determines that the request needs a remote
cache access, the following 14 steps in the PRESS model and 9 steps in the coscheduled
PRESS model are depicted in the figures. As seen in the figures, a remote request in
PRESS requires several additional context switches between the main and send/receive
processes compared to that in the coscheduled PRESS model. In addition to the DCS
