Before we get into the thick of it, we want to deal with one of the most common myths we hear from estate
planning professionals My clients don't know what the Internet is. They are not online.
The reality is actually vastly different from that. In fact, my seniors have found the Internet as an excellent
way to spend all their free time.
According to research by Nielsen/NetRatings and eMarketer,
The total online population jumped from 128.2 million (10/02) to 136.2 million (10/03)
Users of Age 50+ increased from 21.2 million (17% of total online population) to 25.2 million (19% of
total online population)
Users of Age 65+ also increased from 7.6 million (6% of those online) to 9.6 million (7% of those online)
The number of page views of users Age 65+ increased from 1,430 per month to 1,548 per month
The amount of time spent online by users of 65+ increased from 94 hours per month to 97 hours per
month.
Just to reiterate, people of Age 50+ make up nearly 20% of everybody online, and even those of Age
65+ spend over 97 hours per month online!
