Yahoo is actually a Directory rather than a Search Engine, although that has little distinction to people using
it. People can use search engines and directories in similar fashions. Let's start with how an engine works.
The first step in understanding search engines is to see how they work for the end user your prospects. If
Robert the consumer wants to find something about estate planning, he visits Yahoo.Com. There are two
methods of searching that are most commonly used.
First, there is a search field that allows you to type in anything you want.
Second, there are categories you can click on, then click through subtopics and so on, until you find what
you are looking for. Your web site is placed in these categories based on what you pick when you initially
register your site with each search engine. However, the search box is a completely different system. For
now, be aware that all major search engines work in the same fashion, with the search box being the more
popular searching method and using often completely different logic to run searches.
Let's say Robert types estate planning in the search field at Yahoo and clicks the SEARCH button.
