Chapter 3 Managing Files
In order to keep you and your files organized you'll want to become familiar with the
Site panel. It's primary function is to display the contents of your website, both the
local and remote copies. FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows you to transfer files
between two computers. Additionally, you'll use the site panel for a quick, on click
method of uploading your local copy to the remote copy of your website, so that
Internet viewers can see your additions and updates.
Where once you probably had to open an FTP (file transfer protocol) program every
time you wanted to update the remote copy of your website, now you can do it with
the click of a button. After a few minutes of setting up the information inside of
Dreamweaver MX, and you can forget about the hassles of transferring files and
focus more on design and development.
After reviewing this chapter you should be able to:
set up a local site
know the functionality of the Site panel
view, rename, move and delete files using the Site panel
set up a remote site
get and put files between the local and remote sites
