Web Hosting Getting Started Guide 107
After you have published your starter web page, you can find your page online by going
directly to your web address (such as http://www.widgetdesigns.com) or clicking the "View
My Site" link in the upper right corner of your Web Hosting Control Panel.
Note: If your domain is still pending, your starter web page will not be viewable. However,
you will be able to preview your page from within the Starter Web Page Wizard. We
recommend that you do not publish, announce, or share your web address until your domain
has become active.
If your domain is active and you see the default "Under Construction" page when you click
"View My Site," you have not yet created a starter web page or other web presence.
HTML and Third Party Editors
We want to make the process of building and updating a professional looking web site as easy
as possible, so we ve created a suite of site building tools aimed at all users, from web
novices to HTML experts. We designed all of our tools with beginners in mind, so if you re new
to the Web, you suggest you get started with a Yahoo! site building tool such as Yahoo!
With Yahoo! Web Hosting, you can choose the tool that s right for you. If you re an
experienced user more comfortable working with your own site building software, such as
Microsoft FrontPage or Macromedia Dreamweaver, or you need the advanced features
available in software like Adobe GoLive, go ahead and build your site offline, with your own
tools. You can even create an entire site by hand offline using your own HTML or text editor
(or online with our editors) or use your own software or our advanced scripting tools to create
pages with PHP, Perl, and MySQL.
We suggest that you use the site building tool with which you re most comfortable. If you ve
used a third party tool before, or you want to take advantage of the advanced features
available in certain software, we ll make it easy for you to use it with your Web Hosting plan.
To use a third party site building tool with your plan, you ll simply need to copy the web
pages and files you develop with your own software to your Web Hosting account. You ll set
up your software to connect with our servers, then use FTP (or, if you re using FrontPage, the
Publish function) to upload your files to your Web Hosting account.
Please note that third party software such as Microsoft FrontPage must be purchased
separately from Yahoo! Web Hosting. To purchase your own software, visit Yahoo! Shopping
