Web Hosting Getting Started Guide 116
To complete the activation, you ll need to assign at least one author to this subweb.
Select an existing author from the pull down menu or add a name and password for a
Click "Activate" to save your work and activate this subweb.
Note: Existing subdirectories of the directory you activated will remain only directories; they
do not become subwebs just because the parent directory is now a subweb. Please be aware
also that folders inside a parent subweb do not inherit its authors. You can create a subweb
within a subweb and define completely different authors for each.
You can create new subdirectories anytime in your File Manager and activate them by
following the steps above. To create and activate subwebs more quickly, we suggest using the
FrontPage console s "Create subweb" feature.
What is an author?
An author of a FrontPage directory is a user who has been granted permission to publish files
in that directory. When you use FrontPage to create and manage your web site, you can
assign authors to each activated directory, or subweb, granting other users of your web site
permission to update, publish, and manage files in those directories.
How do I add an author?
You can add an author anytime using the FrontPage console in your Web Hosting Control
Panel or your Password Manager.
Your list of available authors is synchronized with the list of users in your Password Manager,
including any users to whom you ve granted password or FTP access to your site. You can add
a user to your list of available authors in the Password Manager anytime, then use the
FrontPage console to assign publishing privileges to that user.
Use the FrontPage console to add an author and assign that author publishing privileges in a
subweb. When you activate FrontPage, you ll assign default FrontPage publishing privileges to
one author. You ll be able to choose an existing author or add a new author. After you
activate FrontPage, you can add an author to your account anytime, and assign this and other
authors publishing privileges in any subweb of your site.
To add an author after you have activated FrontPage:
From the Create & Update tab of your Web Hosting Control Panel, click "FrontPage."
Click the "Manage Authors" link.
Click the "Add author" link in the upper right corner of this section, above the list of
assigned authors. The "Add and Assign Authors" module will appear.
In step 1, enter an author name and a password for that author.
