CHAPTER 3. HOW DO I USE HOSTING CONTROLLER?

General settings
The General Settings area covers a miscellaneous range of settings, including where Hosting Controller is installed,
the hosting root folder path, and the number of domains that are shown on one page. For example, if you were
hosting 40 domains, changing the Items Displayed field to 20 would display 2 windows of 20 domains each.
One of the major advantages of Hosting Controller is that it completely handles the NTFS security at the back
end. This means that when you create an account and web site, a user account and folders are created in the
background. There are certain NTFS security permissions that need to be set on these folders to prevent hacking
and unauthorized access. Hosting Controller uses best security practices and sets the strongest NTFS permissions
on these folders automatically, making them as secure as possible. However, if you want to handle NTFS security
yourself, you can disable this feature by enabling the Default ACL Adjustment tick box in the General Settings
area Hosting Controller will no longer set NTFS permissions on your server.
To set your general settings:
1. Click on the General Settings link in the Preferences menu.
2. Enter the path of the Hosting Controller installation in the HC Install Path field, and the root directory
for all your hosting information in the Hosting Root Folder Path field.
3. If you want to find the correct folder path using the
button, use the following techniques:
Choose the drive you want to examine from the top drop down list.
Click on the required folder in the Folders list and click on the
button to open that
folder.
Click on the
button to move up directories.
Click on the
button when you have found the correct folder.
4. Click on the Default ACL Adjustment tick box, if required.
